Your Sleds

Sleds only useful in races; if you aren't running races, then you don't need sleds.

Sled Statistics

  • Sled Parts & Sled Score

What's sled score? Sled score is a number, out of 100, that measures how well your sled suits the race it's currently in; its performance. You would get a sled score of 100 if you used all deluxe parts and all the parts that are ideal for the race length and weather of the race you are in. Sleds do not have a score when they are not in a race.

Your sled score is calculated by adding up values for how good the quality of each sled part is, and by determining how appropriate each sled part is to the particular race you're running! The better your sled is in a race, the less time you'll spend stuck on hang-ups.

As you level up, you will continuously unlock more sled parts until you reach level 30, where you unlock your final part. These will be better models that will increase the overall score of your sled, or different types of each item, which are better for different race distances or weather. At any time, you can switch out these parts at a craftsman.

    • Brakes & Sled Fastenings

Brakes and fastenings are parts that simply have better and worse models. Deluxe is the best, followed by Standard, and then Basic. Swapping your brakes and fastenings to better models will increase your sled score.

    • Sled Frames & Distance

Different sled frames are best suited for different race distances. If you are using another frame, nothing bad will happen; your sled will just not be performing to its full potential (and neither will your team!)

    • Sled Runners & Weather

Just as in real life, the weather is always changing! Luckily, it's far more predictable here on GoneMushing and an accurate forecast is stated clearly on each race listing. This is an important factor to pay attention to, because it will affect the overall score of your sled in each race.

Similar to the way that you must change your sled type to match the length of the race, your sled runners are affected by weather. You can race with any runners, of course, but you're more likely to have problems with the runners they further down the list they are for the kind of weather that the race is having, so it's good to use the appropriate runners for each race. You can swap them before races at a craftsman if you want to, but make sure the part is 100% repaired, or you'll lose a use when you swap it off the sled.

Here's a list of which runners are best for which kinds of weather (in order from most ideal to least):

There are also special items such as clovers and horseshoes that add points to your sled score (and make the race count as a "special race"). You can run 5 "special races" per week.

Sled condition does not affect score and is only for your information.

    Sled Care

  • Craftsman

The craftsman is where you go to build, dismantle, repair or swap parts on a sled. You can visit the Default Craftsman or a user's craftsman workshop. Both offer the same services, but a user may have cheaper commissions.

    • Build: To put together a sled, you need a sled frame, brakes, runners and sled fastenings. The craftsman can sell these to you from his stock, or you can use parts you already have in your inventory. If you have obtained a sled part that is unlocked at a level than you currently are, you will not be able to add it to a sled. However, if you buy a completed sled from a user of a higher level than you, you will be able to use it, but not repair the parts you have not yet unlocked.

When you build a new sled, you can name it and add it to one of your teams immediately.

    • Dismantle: If you want to take apart your sled and get back the individual parts, choose this option. Be aware that if any part is not at 100% repair when you decide to remove or replace it, you will lose 1 use on the item. If it only has 1 use left, the item will break and you will lose it.

    • Repair: Your sled will get damaged in races, and you will receive notifications when this happens. Don't worry! GoneMushing has talented craftsmen who can repair any sled. To repair a sled, go back to a craftsman and choose "Edit Existing Sled." There you can repair an individual part alone, or the whole sled at once. If you have several parts in need of repair, it's a good idea to repair the whole sled.

Be aware that you don't have to worry about repairing your sled parts every time they take 10% damage. You can wait until they get more damaged and repair them then to save money. The sled condition percentage does not affect anything and is only for your information. You definitely want to make sure you repair parts before they get too low, though. If a part reaches 0% condition, you lose 1 use on the item, or if it only has 1 use, it breaks off and you lose it.

    • Replace: Use this option if you want to swap out parts. You'll probably want to swap out parts for better ones as you unlock them, and different kinds of sled frames and runners are better for different races.

You can view all of your sleds on the "Sleds" tab on your kennel page.
